MICROWAVE TOFFEE

1 cup finely chopped pecans, divided
1 stick butter (no substitutes)
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/4 cup water
3/4 cup chocolate chips

-Sprinkle 1/2 cup pecans in a 9" circle on a greased cookie sheet; set aside.
-Coat the top 2" of a 2 1/2-quart clear glass bowl with butter; place remaining butter inside bowl. Add sugar, salt, and water, do not stir. Microwave on high until mixture turns caramel color, about 10-minutes. Watch color of mixture closely near end of cooling time.
-Pour hot mixture over pecans.
-Sprinkle with chocolate chips, let stand 1 minute.
-Spread chocolate chips over sugar mixture with a spatula.
-Sprinkle with 1/2 cup pecans.
-Chill until firm.
-Break into bite size pieces.

Yield: 1 lb.
